The Ki Blade
[D&D Prestige Class]
The Ki Blade
The ki blade redirects his ki abilities into fighting with a specific blade, gaining a mystical understanding of and connection to that weapon.
Due to the requirements of this prestige class, most ki blades are monks multiclassed with a martial class such as fighter or paladin.
Requirements
To qualify to become a ki blade (KiBl), a character must fulfill all the following criteria.
Alignment: Any lawful.
Base Attack Bonus: +5.
Skills: Concentration 4, Jump 4, Tumble 4.
Feats: Cleave, Improved Unarmed Strike, Power Attack, Weapon Focus (Chosen Blade). The character must be proficient with all martial weapons.
Special: The character must have the Flurry of Blows and Ki Strike class features.
Game Rule Information
Ki blades have the following game statistics.
Base Attack Bonus: Average (as a shadowdancer).
Hit Die: d8.
Saves: Good Fortitude, Reflex and Will.
Class Skills: The ki blade's class skills are Balance (Dex), Climb (Str), Concentration (Con), Craft (Int), Jump (Str), Move Silently (Dex), Profession (Wis), Sense Motive (Wis), Spot (Wis), Swim (Str), and Tumble (Dex). Skill Points at Each Level: 2 + Intelligence modifier.
Class Features
All of the following are class features of the ki blade prestige class.
Weapons and Armor Proficiency: Ki blades gain no additional proficiency with any weapons or armor.
Chosen Blade
The ki blade derives his abilities from a mystical understanding of a particular type of weapon. He must designate his Chosen Blade, any single-handed simple, martial, or exotic slashing melee weapon, such as the kama, longsword, or scimitar. All class features that discuss the ki blade's Chosen Blade refer to weapons of this specific type.
In addition, ki blade levels stack with fighter levels for the purposes of qualifying for Weapon Focus and Weapon Specialization feats, as long as the selected weapon for such feats is the ki blade's Chosen Blade.
Ki Strike [1st/4th/7th/10th level]
Strikes with his blade are empowered with ki.
At 1st level, strikes with his chosen blade are treated as magical for the purpose of dealing damage to creatures with damage reduction. He may also now channel Stunning Fist and other ki effects through his chosen weapon.
At 4th level, his chosen blade strikes are treated as Lawful for the purpose of dealing damage to creatures with damage reduction.
At 7th level, the ki blade's chosen blade enjoys a +1 magical bonus to attack and damage rolls, which stacks with any existing magical bonuses (up to a maximum +5).
At 10th level, his blade strikes are treated as adamantine for the purposes of dealing damage to creatures with damage reduction and bypassing hardness.
Ki Strike is supernatural.
Flurry of Strikes [2nd level]
He can strike with superhuman speed at the expense of accuracy. When unarmored and taking the full attack action with his chosen blade, the ki blade can use his Flurry of Blows ability with his chosen blade, gaining an extra attack with the blade at his highest attack bonus but with all attacks that round suffer a -2 penalty to attack rolls. This is extraordinary.
Unarmored Mobility [3rd/6th/9th level]
He moves like a breeze. At 3rd level and every three levels thereafter, the ki blade gains a +10 bonus to his ground movement rate and a +1 bonus to AC when unarmored and unencumbered. This is extraordinary.
Evasion [5th level]
The ki blade can sidestep deadly attacks. If he makes a Reflex save against an attack that normally inflicts half damage with a successful save, he suffers no damage at all. If the ki blade already enjoys the Evasion ability, he receives Improved Evasion, taking only half damage from such attacks even if he fails the Reflex save. Evasion and Improved Evasion can only be used if the ki blade is in light or no armor and not rendered helpless. This is extraordinary.
Greater Flurry of Strikes [8th level]
He strikes with mercurial speed. His Flurry of Strikes ability improves, granting him an additional blade attack at his full base attack bonus. This is extraordinary.
The Spiral's Edge [10th level]
The ki blade can attack with deadly fluidity. He gains the benefit of the Whirlwind Attack feat when in light or no armor. This is extraordinary.
Epic Ki Blade: The epic-level ki blade continues his Hit Die, skill point, and Unarmored Mobility progressions. In addition, he receives bonus feats at 13th level and every three levels thereafter (13th, 16th, 19th, 22nd, etc.).
